MADRID — Engineering innovation platform ennomotive has launched a global competition seeking advanced predictive maintenance solutions for industrial conveyor belts, aiming to help pulp and paper producer CMPC improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
The challenge invites technology companies, startups, engineering firms and research organizations worldwide to develop monitoring systems capable of detecting conveyor belt failures before they disrupt production.
Predictive Maintenance Targets Critical Industrial Equipment
Industrial conveyor belts play a vital role in sectors including pulp and paper, mining, manufacturing and logistics, where unexpected failures can halt production and increase maintenance costs.
According to ennomotive, failures involving belts, rollers, bearings and drive motors can lead to significant operational losses, safety risks and reduced plant availability.
The competition focuses on developing predictive maintenance technologies that continuously assess conveyor system health and identify anomalies before equipment failure occurs.
Wide Range of Digital Technologies Encouraged
ennomotive is seeking solutions that combine advanced digital technologies to improve conveyor monitoring and maintenance efficiency.
Potential technologies include:
- Artificial intelligence (AI)
- Machine learning
- Industrial sensors
- Computer vision
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Edge computing
- Digital twins
- Predictive analytics
Both commercially available technologies adapted for conveyor systems and entirely new monitoring concepts are eligible for submission.
Winning Solution to Be Tested at CMPC
The initiative addresses an operational challenge faced by CMPC, one of the world’s largest pulp and paper producers with manufacturing operations across Chile, Brazil, Argentina and other countries.
The winning proposal will be validated at one of CMPC’s industrial facilities under real production conditions.
If successful, the technology could be deployed more broadly across the company’s manufacturing network, providing the winning developer with an opportunity to become a long-term technology supplier.
Competition Open Until August
The competition is open to technology companies, engineering consultancies, research centres and startups with expertise in industrial automation, AI, predictive maintenance and related fields.
Participants must submit their proposals through the ennomotive platform by August 4, 2026.
Since its launch in 2015, ennomotive has organised more than 100 global engineering innovation challenges, connecting industrial companies with engineers and technology developers to solve technical challenges across sectors including manufacturing, mining, energy, construction and advanced materials.
