Kenvue has partnered with Greyparrot to use AI-powered waste intelligence for improving packaging circularity across its global operations.
The project will use Greyparrot’s Deepnest system to move beyond theoretical design-for-recycling claims and measure how packaging performs in real recycling facilities.
Why This Matters
As PPWR and EPR rules tighten, brands need proof that packaging can actually be:
- detected
- sorted
- processed
- recovered
in commercial recycling systems.
Kenvue will collect recycling performance data from facilities in the UK and US, focusing on how packaging components such as pumps, labels, translucency and materials affect sortation and recovery.
AI Enables “What-If” Packaging Design
Deepnest will also support scenario modelling before prototypes are made.
This allows Kenvue to estimate how packaging changes could affect:
- EPR fees
- recyclability performance
- material selection
- sorting success
- circularity outcomes
Industry Insight
This partnership reflects a major shift in sustainable packaging: brands are moving from recyclability claims to recyclability evidence.
AI-based waste intelligence could become increasingly important as companies redesign packaging for real-world recycling systems, not only lab-based assumptions.
