Global paper, packaging and visual communication distributor Antalis has expanded its European packaging business through the acquisition of Speidel Verpackungen, a German manufacturer specializing in custom-made industrial packaging solutions.
The acquisition reinforces Antalis’ strategy of growing its value-added packaging business, particularly in the bespoke packaging segment, which the company identifies as an important driver of future growth.
Strengthening Bespoke Packaging Capabilities
Founded in 1981, Speidel Verpackungen is headquartered in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and employs around 60 people.
The company generated approximately €17 million in revenue during 2025 and supplies custom packaging solutions to customers across several industrial sectors, including:
- Medical technology
- Mechanical engineering
- Metalworking
- Automotive manufacturing
Its product portfolio focuses on protective packaging manufactured from corrugated board, heavy-duty corrugated board, wood and foam materials, enabling the company to design packaging solutions for complex industrial products that require enhanced protection during storage and transport.
Expanding Value-Added Packaging Services
Unlike standard packaging distribution, bespoke industrial packaging typically requires engineering expertise to match packaging design with product dimensions, weight, transport conditions and customer requirements.
As manufacturers continue seeking packaging that improves product protection while optimizing logistics efficiency, demand for customized corrugated packaging solutions has continued to grow across industrial markets.
By adding Speidel Verpackungen’s technical capabilities, Antalis broadens its ability to offer engineered packaging solutions alongside its existing paper and packaging distribution business.
Hervé Poncin, Chief Executive Officer of Antalis, said Speidel’s experience in bespoke packaging complements the group’s existing packaging organization and strengthens its overall customer offering.
Speidel Looks to Accelerate Growth
Rainer Speidel, Managing Director of Speidel Verpackungen, said joining Antalis provides access to a larger international network and additional resources to support future expansion.
According to Speidel, becoming part of the global packaging group will support investment in new technologies while helping the company bring its sustainable packaging solutions to a broader customer base.
The transaction also reflects ongoing consolidation within Europe’s packaging industry, where distributors continue expanding into higher-value packaging services beyond traditional paper distribution.
Antalis Continues Acquisition Strategy
The acquisition follows several strategic purchases completed by Antalis over the past two years.
During 2025, the company expanded its portfolio through acquisitions including:
- Texo Trade Services
- Fortuna Digital
- The Packaging Company in the UK
In 2024, Antalis also acquired:
- Poitoo Adhésifs, a French supplier serving the wide-format graphics market
- The assets of Xerox’s EMEA paper business
These acquisitions demonstrate Antalis’ strategy of strengthening its position across paper distribution, packaging solutions and visual communication products while expanding its presence in key European markets.
Industry Outlook
Demand for custom industrial packaging continues to increase as manufacturers seek packaging solutions that improve product protection, reduce transport damage and optimize logistics efficiency.
For packaging converters and distributors, acquisitions such as Speidel Verpackungen illustrate how technical packaging expertise is becoming an increasingly important competitive advantage alongside traditional paper and packaging supply.
As industrial customers continue prioritizing sustainable materials, engineered packaging design and supply chain efficiency, bespoke corrugated packaging is expected to remain a strategic growth area within the broader European packaging market.
