Ardagh sustainability report

Ardagh Group has released its latest Sustainability Report, outlining progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable electricity use and expanding recycled content across its metal and glass packaging operations.

The report covers the company’s two business divisions—Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) and Ardagh Glass Packaging (AGP)—and highlights ongoing investments aimed at supporting customers’ decarbonization and circular economy objectives.

Metal Packaging Cuts Emissions

According to the report, Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) has reduced its:

  • Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 16% since 2020
  • Scope 3 emissions by 18% over the same period

The company said these reductions reflect continued efforts to improve operational efficiency and lower emissions throughout its value chain.

Renewable Electricity Use Continues to Increase

Ardagh also reported progress in sourcing renewable electricity for its manufacturing operations.

In 2025:

Increasing renewable energy use remains one of the company’s key strategies for reducing the carbon footprint of packaging production.

Recycled Content Supports Circular Packaging

The report also highlights continued progress in the use of recycled materials.

According to Ardagh:

  • Metal beverage cans produced by AMP contained approximately 76% recycled content.
  • Glass containers manufactured by AGP contained approximately 55% recycled glass.

In addition, all AMP production facilities have now achieved 100% Zero Waste to Landfill status.

The company said these initiatives support its broader circular economy strategy by increasing material recovery and reducing waste generated during manufacturing.

Investment Beyond Manufacturing

Alongside environmental initiatives, Ardagh said it continues to invest in employee development and community programs.

The report highlights activities including:

These efforts form part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy covering environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities.

Focus Remains on 2030 Sustainability Targets

Looking ahead, Ardagh said it will continue prioritizing:

  • Decarbonization
  • Circular economy initiatives
  • Water stewardship
  • Social responsibility across its value chain

The company operates 58 manufacturing facilities in 16 countries and reported approximately US$9.6 billion in annual sales last year.

For the packaging industry, the latest sustainability report reflects how major packaging manufacturers are increasingly measuring progress through emissions reductions, renewable energy adoption and recycled material use. As customer expectations and environmental regulations continue to evolve, investments in low-carbon manufacturing and circular packaging are becoming central to long-term business strategies.
