Canadian forest products company Canfor has completed its acquisition of PinkWood Ltd., strengthening its position in the engineered wood products market and expanding its value-added manufacturing capabilities in Western Canada.
The transaction, originally announced on June 9, adds one of the region’s largest engineered wood manufacturing facilities to Canfor’s portfolio as the company continues investing in higher-value building materials.
Acquisition Adds Major I-Joist Production Capacity
Based in Calgary, Alberta, PinkWood operates what is reported to be Western Canada’s largest I-joist manufacturing facility.
The acquisition adds:
The additional manufacturing capacity complements Canfor’s existing operations across British Columbia and Alberta, strengthening its supply of engineered wood products for residential and commercial construction markets.
Focus on Value-Added Manufacturing
Canfor said the acquisition aligns with its long-term strategy of expanding value-added wood product manufacturing.
Engineered wood products such as I-joists continue to see growing demand as builders seek stronger, lighter and more efficient structural materials for modern construction projects.
By adding PinkWood’s manufacturing capabilities, Canfor further diversifies beyond traditional lumber production while increasing its presence in higher-margin engineered wood markets.
PinkWood to Continue Operating Under Existing Brand
Following completion of the acquisition, PinkWood will retain its existing brand identity while operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Canfor.
Maintaining the established brand is expected to provide continuity for customers while allowing the business to benefit from Canfor’s broader manufacturing network and resources.
Leadership Highlights Strategic Fit
Canfor President and Chief Executive Officer Susan Yurkovich described the acquisition as an important step in the company’s growth strategy.
“The acquisition represents a strong, strategic fit for both companies and supports the continued growth of our value-added manufacturing capabilities,” Yurkovich said.
She added that Canfor is pleased to welcome PinkWood’s operations, management team and employees to the company.
Growing Investment in Engineered Wood Products
The acquisition reflects broader trends across the North American forest products sector, where manufacturers are increasing investments in engineered wood technologies to diversify revenue streams and capture growing demand for sustainable construction materials.
Engineered wood products, including I-joists, laminated veneer lumber and mass timber components, are becoming increasingly important as builders seek materials that improve construction efficiency while supporting lower-carbon building practices.
With the addition of PinkWood, Canfor further strengthens its position in Canada’s engineered wood products market while expanding its value-added manufacturing platform.
