Cascades sustainability VP

Canadian packaging and tissue producer Cascades has appointed François David as Vice-President of Sustainable Development, Communications and Public Affairs, strengthening its leadership team as the company advances its latest sustainability strategy.

David succeeds to a role that will oversee Cascades’ environmental strategy, corporate communications and public affairs while supporting the implementation of what the company describes as its most ambitious sustainable development plan to date.

Marketing Executive Expands Leadership Role

David brings nearly three decades of experience in marketing, commercial strategy and business leadership across multiple industries.

Before joining Cascades, he held senior marketing positions at Johnson & Johnson, Astral Media (now part of Bell Media), Molson Coors, and PendoPharm.

Since joining Cascades in 2020, David has taken on progressively broader responsibilities within the company.

His career progression at Cascades includes:

  • 2020: Vice-President, Marketing and Innovation, North America
  • 2021: Added responsibility for sales operations
  • 2024: Promoted to Commercial Vice-President, Tissue Papers
  • 2026: Appointed Vice-President, Sustainable Development, Communications and Public Affairs

His latest appointment reflects the company’s increasing focus on integrating commercial strategy with sustainability and corporate engagement.

Supporting Cascades’ Sustainability Strategy

In his new position, David will play a central role in executing Cascades’ long-term sustainable development roadmap.

The company has identified sustainability as a strategic priority across its operations, with initiatives focused on responsible manufacturing, circular economy solutions, fibre recovery, carbon reduction and stakeholder engagement.

By combining sustainability leadership with communications and public affairs, Cascades aims to strengthen collaboration with customers, policymakers, investors and local communities while advancing its environmental objectives.

CEO Highlights Leadership Qualities

Cascades President and Chief Executive Officer Hugues Simon said David’s leadership style and strategic perspective made him well suited for the expanded role.

“François is a unifying leader who knows how to build high-performing, engaged teams. His people-centred approach, his ability to develop lasting relationships built on trust and his strategic vision will be significant assets as we continue our transformation.”

The appointment comes as manufacturers across the pulp, paper and packaging industry place greater emphasis on sustainability leadership to address evolving customer expectations, regulatory requirements and circular economy initiatives.

With responsibility for sustainable development, communications and public affairs now combined under David’s leadership, Cascades is positioning sustainability as a core element of its long-term corporate strategy.
