Toronto-based woody biomass energy company Char Technologies has appointed Kevin Melnyk as its new chief financial officer.
The appointment comes as Char Tech continues commissioning its renewable energy facility in Thorold, Ontario, and works to scale its project pipeline.
Finance Experience in Renewable Energy
Melnyk brings experience in:
- mergers and acquisitions
- capital structuring
- renewable energy infrastructure finance
- debt and equity markets
His previous roles include work with:
- Clearlight Energy
- Algonquin Power & Utilities
- PRIVEQ Capital Funds
Char Tech CEO Andrew White said Melnyk’s background makes him well suited to support the company’s growth and financing strategy.
New Board Members Added
Char Tech also added three new board members:
- Paul Veldman
- Stephanie Bird
- David Campbell
Veldman is a founding partner of BMI Group and has experience repurposing idled pulp and paper mill sites.
Bird has CFO experience across multiple companies and has worked on green finance, including green bonds and project financing.
Campbell has more than 25 years of international business experience and previously managed a green energy portfolio for Algonquin.
Industry Insight
The appointments suggest Char Tech is preparing for a more capital-intensive growth phase.
For biomass and renewable energy companies, financial structuring, project finance and industrial redevelopment expertise are increasingly important as projects scale from technology deployment to commercial infrastructure.
