CP Five Star Bangladesh has partnered with Ecovia to introduce compostable packaging solutions across its food service operations, marking a move toward reducing plastic waste and expanding the use of sustainable food packaging in Bangladesh.
The collaboration will initially replace selected plastic packaging with compostable alternatives, beginning with U-cut bags used throughout CP Five Star’s fried chicken franchise network. The companies said the initiative is intended to support environmentally responsible operations while responding to growing consumer demand for more sustainable packaging options.
Partnership Focuses on Compostable Packaging
The agreement was formalized through a cooperation signing ceremony attended by senior executives from both companies, strengthening collaboration between the food service and sustainable packaging sectors.
Ecovia develops compostable packaging materials using patented technology that converts textile waste into packaging products, providing an alternative to conventional plastic packaging while giving discarded clothing materials a second life.
The companies said the partnership aims to combine food-grade packaging performance with improved environmental outcomes.
Balancing Food Protection and Sustainability
According to Surachai Ratanasuwan, Vice President of CP Bangladesh Co. Ltd., packaging plays a critical role not only in protecting food quality and safety but also in reducing environmental impact.
He said integrating compostable packaging into CP Five Star’s operations reflects the company’s commitment to responsible business development while offering consumers more sustainable packaging choices.
Supporting Innovation in Food Packaging
Riasat Zaman, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Ecovia, said the collaboration is designed to bring compostable packaging technology into commercial food service applications.
The company aims to develop packaging that maintains:
- Food safety
- Product quality
- Consumer convenience
- Operational performance
- Environmental sustainability
By combining these objectives, the partners hope to demonstrate that compostable materials can meet the practical requirements of modern food packaging.
Circular Economy Remains a Key Objective
Beyond replacing selected plastic packaging, the initiative also supports broader circular economy goals by encouraging more responsible resource use and promoting packaging innovation that reduces long-term environmental impacts.
Both companies said the partnership is intended to maintain food-grade packaging standards while ensuring product protection, operational efficiency and consumer confidence throughout the supply chain.
Growing Demand for Sustainable Food Packaging
The partnership reflects a wider trend across the food service industry, where businesses are evaluating alternatives to conventional plastic packaging as sustainability expectations and environmental policies continue to evolve.
For the packaging industry, collaborations between food brands and material innovators are becoming increasingly important in accelerating the commercial adoption of compostable packaging, particularly where solutions can integrate into existing operations without compromising food safety or product performance.
