Domtar $2K Your Way

Domtar has announced that 75 employees across North America will distribute a combined US$150,000 to local charities and community organizations through the company’s $2K Your Way employee giving program.

The initiative enables employees to nominate charitable organizations in their own communities to receive US$2,000 grants, supporting projects that address local needs while encouraging employee involvement in community development.

Program Supports Local Community Initiatives

This year’s funding will benefit a wide range of organizations focused on education, youth development and humanitarian assistance.

Among the projects receiving support are:

  • Improvements to the library at St. Gabriel’s Elementary School in Windsor, Quebec
  • Support for the robotics club at Alberni District Secondary School in Port Alberni, British Columbia
  • Assistance for the Door of Hope Food Bank in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan

The selected initiatives reflect the program’s emphasis on helping communities through education, skills development and social support.

Education Receives Strong Support

A significant share of this year’s grants has been directed toward programs that encourage learning and help young people develop practical skills.

School library improvements and robotics education were among the projects selected, highlighting growing interest in supporting educational resources and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities at the community level.

Food Security Remains a Priority

Alongside educational initiatives, several grants will support organizations addressing food insecurity and other essential community services.

Food banks and local charitable organizations continue to play an important role in assisting families facing economic challenges across North America.

Employee-Led Giving Strengthens Community Engagement

According to Seth Kursman, Domtar’s Vice President of Global External Communications, the program demonstrates the commitment of employees to supporting causes that make a difference in their local communities.

Rather than selecting projects centrally, the $2K Your Way program allows employees to identify organizations that are important within their own regions, helping direct funding toward locally identified priorities.

Corporate Community Investment Continues

Employee-directed grant programs have become an increasingly common element of corporate social responsibility strategies, allowing businesses to strengthen community relationships while encouraging employee participation in charitable activities.

For the forest products industry, initiatives such as Domtar’s $2K Your Way program complement broader sustainability efforts by supporting education, community wellbeing and local development in the regions where companies operate.
