Domtar Engineered Absorbent Materials sale

JESUP, Georgia — Domtar has completed the sale of its Engineered Absorbent Materials (EAM) business to private equity firm Saothair Capital Partners, marking another step in the company’s strategy to sharpen its focus on its core paper and packaging operations.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Domtar Advances Strategic Transformation

The divestment aligns with Domtar’s ongoing efforts to streamline its business portfolio and concentrate investment on its paper and packaging businesses.

Steve Henry, Domtar’s President for the U.S. and CEO of Paper and Packaging, said the transaction supports the company’s long-term transformation strategy while positioning EAM for future growth under new ownership.

According to Domtar, the company worked closely with Saothair Capital and the EAM management team to ensure a smooth ownership transition.

EAM Serves Multiple Hygiene and Packaging Markets

Based in Jesup, Georgia, Engineered Absorbent Materials develops and manufactures nonwoven air-laid and laminated absorbent materials used across several industries.

Its products serve applications including:

  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Adult incontinence products
  • Baby diapers
  • Medical products
  • Industrial materials
  • Food packaging

The company specializes in engineered absorbent substrates designed for both consumer and industrial applications.

Existing Management Team Remains

Saothair Capital said it intends to continue operating the Jesup manufacturing facility while maintaining relationships with existing employees, customers and suppliers.

As part of the transition:

  • Vanecia Carr will continue as Chief Executive Officer.
  • Lori Venn will serve as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

The continuity of the leadership team is expected to support ongoing operations and customer relationships.

Private Equity Targets Manufacturing Growth

Saothair Capital focuses on investments in middle-market manufacturing and industrial businesses.

The acquisition expands its portfolio within specialty materials manufacturing while providing EAM with dedicated ownership focused on future operational development.

Portfolio Reshaping Continues

The transaction reflects a broader trend across the forest products sector, where companies are increasingly refining their business portfolios to concentrate on strategic growth segments.

For Domtar, the sale reinforces its emphasis on paper, packaging and related fibre-based businesses, while enabling EAM to pursue future growth opportunities under specialized ownership.
