Enbox Wins Arcapack Oro 2026 for Snack Shot

Spanish sustainable packaging company Enbox (World Vypmar) has won the prestigious Arcapack Oro 2026 national award for Best Food Packaging with its innovative “Snack Shot” cherry tomato packaging solution.

The award recognizes outstanding packaging design innovation in Spain and was presented to structural packaging designer Víctor Folk for developing a concept that combines:

  • plastic reduction,
  • consumer engagement,
  • regulatory compliance,
  • and recyclable fibre-based packaging design.

Packaging Designed to Compete With Snack Culture

One of the most interesting aspects of the “Snack Shot” concept is its focus on consumer psychology rather than packaging protection alone.

The design specifically targets one of the fresh produce industry’s biggest modern challenges:

👉 How do you make healthy food emotionally engaging for children in a market dominated by highly branded processed snacks?

Instead of functioning as a passive tray, the package becomes interactive after consumption.

Using a folding mechanism integrated directly into the cardboard structure, the empty pack transforms into a miniature basketball hoop.

The concept follows a simple consumer message:

“Open, taste, and score.”

Structural Packaging Innovation Beyond Sustainability

While the packaging strongly emphasizes sustainability, the project also demonstrates how structural packaging design is evolving into:

  • brand experience,
  • consumer interaction,
  • and shelf differentiation.

The recyclable cardboard tray includes:

  • an interactive outer sleeve,
  • folding structural elements,
  • and mono-material fibre construction.

This creates stronger shelf visibility while avoiding additional plastic components.

Built on Enbox’s Synergy Packaging Platform

The award-winning design is based on Enbox’s sustainable Synergy packaging line, developed in partnership with Graphic Packaging International.

The Synergy system was created as a response to tightening European packaging regulations, particularly:

  • the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR),
  • and increasing restrictions on single-use plastic packaging for fresh produce under 1.5 kg.

Fully Recyclable Alternative to Plastic Clamshells

The packaging uses:

  • FSC-certified kraft cardboard,
  • heat-sealable fibre structures,
  • and mono-material recyclable construction.

This allows the package to replace traditional plastic clamshell containers commonly used for fruits and vegetables.

Unlike many paper-based alternatives, the design was also developed to maintain:

  • transport durability,
  • operational efficiency,
  • automated packing compatibility,
  • and retail protection performance.

Sustainability Alone Is No Longer Enough

One of the most important industry signals from this project is that sustainable packaging is no longer competing only on environmental performance.

Modern packaging increasingly needs to deliver:

  • sustainability,
  • operational efficiency,
  • regulatory compliance,
  • and consumer engagement simultaneously.

The “Snack Shot” project reflects a broader shift happening across the packaging industry:
👉 sustainable packaging is becoming a branding and customer experience tool, not just a material replacement exercise.

Why This Matters for the Packaging Industry

The Enbox award highlights several major trends shaping the future of food packaging:

  • the transition away from plastic fresh-produce packaging,
  • growing use of mono-material fibre structures,
  • interactive packaging design,
  • child-focused consumer engagement,
  • and packaging systems built around PPWR compliance.

For packaging manufacturers and converters, it also reinforces a growing market reality:

Packaging that combines sustainability with shelf differentiation and operational practicality is likely to gain the strongest commercial traction moving forward.
