flexible packaging production

Italian label converter Carby Label is expanding its manufacturing capabilities with the purchase of a fourth press from Lombardi Converting Machinery, reinforcing its strategy to grow in the flexible packaging production market.

The investment includes a new Invicta i1 670 inline flexographic press, which will be installed at the company’s production facility in Casamassima, Italy. The new press is expected to significantly increase production capacity while supporting growing demand for fresh produce packaging.

New Press Aims to Double Production Capacity

According to Carby Label, the 670 mm web-width press will enable the company to double its production capacity for fruit and vegetable packaging.

The additional capacity is intended to support increasing customer demand while maintaining high print quality, production speed and operational flexibility.

The company says the investment will strengthen its ability to serve the fresh produce sector, where efficient production and consistent print quality are becoming increasingly important.

Inline Flexo Supports Diversification

Lombardi’s Invicta i1 platform is designed to handle both label printing and flexible packaging applications, allowing converters to expand into wider-web production without moving away from inline flexographic technology.

Key features of the press include:

  • High levels of production automation
  • Fast job changeovers
  • Consistent print quality
  • Compatibility with multiple packaging substrates

These capabilities enable converters to improve operational efficiency while responding more quickly to shorter production runs and a wider range of packaging formats.

Long-Term Partnership Continues

The latest investment marks the fourth Lombardi press installed by Carby Label, reflecting a long-standing collaboration between the two Italian companies.

Anna Carbonara, Marketing Manager at Carby Label, said the company selected the Invicta i1 670 to increase production capacity and better support customers in the fruit and vegetable packaging market. She also highlighted the reliability, print quality and production speed of Lombardi’s equipment as key factors behind the investment.

Enrico Gandolfi, Italy Sales Director at Lombardi Converting Machinery, said the installation will support Carby Label’s expansion into flexible packaging while further strengthening the long-term partnership between the two companies.

Flexible Packaging Investment Continues

The investment reflects a broader trend among label converters expanding into flexible packaging as brand owners seek suppliers capable of producing a wider range of packaging formats.

By investing in wider-web inline flexographic technology, converters can diversify their product portfolios, improve manufacturing flexibility and capture new business opportunities across food and consumer packaging markets.

As demand for high-quality flexible packaging continues to grow, investments in automated flexographic presses are expected to remain an important strategy for converters seeking greater production capacity and operational efficiency.
