International Paper has acquired a converting facility from Delmarva Corrugated Packaging in Dover, Delaware, strengthening its corrugated packaging footprint on the U.S. East Coast.
The acquisition supports International Paper’s strategy to expand production capacity, improve regional service speed and deliver sustainable packaging solutions closer to customers.
Why the Dover Facility Matters
The Dover operation gives International Paper:
- additional converting capacity
- stronger East Coast market coverage
- access to established customer relationships
- improved regional delivery efficiency
- a platform for corrugated packaging growth
Tom Hamic, International Paper’s EVP and President of Packaging Solutions North America, said the facility’s customer base and strategic location will help improve speed and reliability for customers.
Strategic Industry Context
The deal reflects a wider corrugated packaging trend: large producers are strengthening regional converting networks to improve responsiveness and reduce supply chain friction.
As demand for sustainable corrugated packaging continues across food, ecommerce, industrial and retail markets, local capacity is becoming increasingly valuable.
Final Thought
International Paper’s Dover acquisition is a practical capacity move, not just a footprint expansion. It strengthens the company’s ability to serve East Coast customers with faster, more reliable corrugated packaging supply.
