PINE HILL, Alabama — International Paper has temporarily suspended operations at its Pine Hill containerboard mill after a weather event damaged a critical section of the facility’s roof, prompting the company to halt production as a precaution.
The company said the shutdown was implemented to protect employees and contractors while repair work is assessed and completed.
Safety-First Decision Halts Production
International Paper stated that employee and contractor safety was the primary reason for temporarily idling the mill.
According to the company, the roof damage affected a critical area of the facility, making it necessary to suspend manufacturing operations until repairs can be safely carried out.
The company expects production to resume during August, subject to the completion of repair work.
Customer Supply Management Underway
International Paper said it is working closely with customers to minimize any disruption caused by the temporary shutdown.
The company is coordinating supply and logistics while repair activities continue and thanked employees, customers and business partners for their support during the recovery process.
No injuries or additional operational impacts were reported in the announcement.
Containerboard Production Temporarily Interrupted
The Pine Hill mill is part of International Paper’s North American containerboard manufacturing network, which supplies paper used in corrugated packaging production.
Temporary outages at containerboard mills can affect regional supply chains, although large integrated producers typically use their broader manufacturing networks to reduce customer impacts during planned or unplanned shutdowns.
International Paper said it will continue assessing repair requirements before safely restarting operations later this summer.
