LG mono-material refill pouch

LG Household & Health Care has partnered with LG Chem to develop a large-capacity PE mono-material refill pouch designed to improve recyclability while maintaining durability.

The new pouch replaces conventional composite-material structures with a simplified polyethylene format, making disposal and recycling easier.

Why This Matters

Traditional refill pouches often use multiple material layers to improve strength and barrier performance. However, those mixed structures are harder to recycle.

The new mono-material pouch can receive an “excellent” recycling grade, while composite pouches generally remain at a lower “fair” grade.

Unikuble Film Enables 2L-Class Packaging

The latest pouch uses LG Chem’s ultra-thin packaging film material Unikuble, which supports durability in larger 2L-class refill formats.

Unikuble is designed to maintain the strength and physical properties of conventional composite films while improving recyclability.

Industry Insight

This development reflects a wider packaging shift toward:

For household goods brands, large-capacity mono-material refill pouches could become an important route to combine consumer convenience with circular packaging goals.
