LONDON — Refillable packaging solutions are expected to be a major focus at London Packaging Week 2026, as cosmetics brands seek practical ways to reduce packaging waste while meeting evolving sustainability regulations and consumer expectations.
The exhibition, taking place 16–17 September at Excel London, will showcase refillable jars, bottles, pouches and dispensing systems designed to support circular packaging strategies across the beauty and personal care sector.
Sustainability Drives Refillable Packaging Adoption
The global cosmetics packaging market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of nearly 5% through 2031, surpassing US$40 billion, according to event organizers.
As packaging volumes continue to increase, beauty brands are placing greater emphasis on solutions that reduce material use and improve packaging circularity.
Refillable packaging has emerged as one approach that can:
- Reduce packaging waste
- Encourage product reuse
- Support repeat purchases
- Help brands prepare for evolving environmental regulations
Growing implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes and the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is also encouraging companies to consider reusable packaging formats as part of their long-term sustainability strategies.
Design Remains Critical for Consumer Adoption
Despite growing interest, refill systems still face adoption challenges.
Brands continue to address concerns related to:
- Product hygiene
- Refill convenience
- Consumer perception of product value
- Ease of use
As a result, packaging suppliers are increasingly combining refill functionality with premium aesthetics, product protection and branding opportunities.
Suppliers Showcase Refillable Solutions
Several packaging suppliers will present refill-focused technologies during the exhibition.
Among the products featured are:
- Pinard Beauty Pack’s Pin Pack® recyclable PET and rPET refill bottles
- Amcor’s AmPrima recycle-ready refill pouches
- Amcor Prima Refill mono-material polypropylene cosmetic jars
- Curve Pack refillable glass and aluminum airless bottles
- Lablabo’s Baia Refill airless dispensing system using replaceable PE pouches
- Spectra Packaging’s refillable bottles incorporating Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP)
Many of the systems combine reusable outer packaging with replaceable inner containers to reduce plastic consumption while maintaining product protection and branding flexibility.
Beauty Brands Expand Refill Programs
Several cosmetics and fragrance brands have already introduced refillable packaging based on these technologies.
Examples highlighted by organizers include:
- Paco Rabanne, offering refillable fragrance packaging
- Cahé Cosmétique, using refillable airless skincare packaging
- Juliette Has A Gun, adopting refill packaging for luxury laundry detergent
- FFS (Fuss Free Shaving), developing refillable shave cream bottles designed for letterbox delivery
These examples demonstrate how refillable packaging is expanding beyond traditional skincare products into fragrances, personal care and household products.
Circular Packaging Continues to Evolve
As cosmetics companies balance sustainability goals with premium product presentation, refillable packaging is becoming an increasingly important part of packaging development.
London Packaging Week 2026 is expected to provide a platform for brands, packaging designers and manufacturers to evaluate refill technologies alongside broader innovations in sustainable materials, packaging design and circular economy solutions.
