L'Oréal Pack4Good

Global beauty company L’Oréal has joined Canopy’s Pack4Good initiative, reinforcing its commitment to responsible paper packaging and sustainable fibre sourcing as brands across consumer goods industries work to reduce the environmental impact of packaging.

The move aligns with L’Oréal’s broader sustainability strategy and places the company among a growing group of businesses supporting forest-friendly paper packaging supply chains. Pack4Good now includes 566 participating brands, reflecting increasing industry attention on responsible fibre procurement and circular packaging materials.

Focus on Deforestation-Free Paper Packaging

Pack4Good is an initiative led by environmental NGO Canopy that encourages companies to eliminate the risk of deforestation and forest degradation associated with paper packaging.

Participating companies commit to improving transparency throughout their fibre supply chains while reducing the use of materials linked to ancient and endangered forests.

Beyond responsible sourcing, the programme promotes greater use of recycled fibre, supports the development of alternative packaging materials derived from agricultural residues and other non-wood fibres, and encourages the protection of biodiversity and the rights of Indigenous and local communities.

As regulatory expectations and corporate sustainability targets continue to evolve, supply chain traceability has become an increasingly important consideration for packaging buyers and brand owners.

Part of L’Oréal’s Broader Sustainability Roadmap

L’Oréal said joining Pack4Good supports its “L’Oréal for the Future“ sustainability commitments, which cover climate action, biodiversity, water stewardship and responsible resource management.

The announcement follows the company’s World Refill Day campaign earlier this year, when 18 L’Oréal brands promoted refillable packaging solutions as part of efforts to reduce packaging waste in the beauty and personal care market.

Céline Bomo-Leducq, Global Sustainable Sourcing Director at L’Oréal, said the company’s sustainability transformation extends across its entire value chain.

She added that participating in Pack4Good reflects L’Oréal’s ambition to expand circular packaging solutions while improving the sustainability of the materials used to package its products.

Collaboration Driving Fibre Supply Chain Improvements

According to Canopy, Pack4Good members work collectively to improve the environmental performance of paper packaging by:

  • Increasing supply chain transparency and due diligence
  • Avoiding fibre sourced from ancient and endangered forests
  • Expanding recycled content in paper packaging
  • Supporting next-generation fibre materials, including agricultural residues
  • Promoting forest conservation and community rights

The initiative reflects a broader industry trend in which sustainability efforts increasingly extend beyond recyclable packaging design to include responsible raw material sourcing.

Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director of Canopy, said L’Oréal’s participation is expected to help accelerate the transition toward more resilient, lower-carbon paper packaging supply chains.

Sustainable Fibre Becomes a Growing Industry Priority

L’Oréal joins a growing number of consumer brands incorporating responsible fibre sourcing into their packaging strategies.

Earlier this week, UK retailer The White Company also announced its participation in Canopy’s initiatives, highlighting continued momentum behind sustainable fibre procurement across multiple retail sectors.

For the paper packaging industry, this trend creates additional demand for certified fibre, recycled paper, alternative pulp sources and improved supply chain verification. It also reinforces the growing importance of collaboration between brand owners, paper producers, converters and certification organisations as sustainability requirements become increasingly integrated into packaging procurement decisions.

As more multinational brands expand their commitments to responsible paper packaging, transparency, fibre traceability and circular material sourcing are likely to remain key priorities across the global packaging value chain.
