Macpac BRCGS AA+ accreditation

UK thermoformed packaging manufacturer Macpac has achieved BRCGS AA+ accreditation for packaging materials following an unannounced audit, strengthening its credentials in packaging quality, safety and manufacturing controls.

According to the company, the audit resulted in no non-conformances, with Macpac receiving the AA+ grade under the BRCGS Packaging Materials Global Standard.

The certification covers operations at the company’s manufacturing facility in Stockport, UK.

Unannounced Audit Results in AA+ Grade

BRCGS standards are widely used across packaging supply chains to assess manufacturing controls related to product safety, quality, legality and operational practices.

Macpac’s latest assessment was conducted without prior announcement.

The company said achieving the AA+ rating with no non-conformances provides additional assurance to customers sourcing thermoformed packaging for UK and international markets.

Graham Kershaw, Managing Director at Macpac, said the result reflects the manufacturing standards maintained by the company’s team.

“Achieving AA+ accreditation via an unannounced audit, with no non-conformances raised, is a strong endorsement of the standards our team delivers every day.”

Kershaw said the achievement also reflects Macpac’s focus on continuous improvement and producing recyclable packaging that combines functionality, product protection and environmental considerations.

Focus on Recyclable Thermoformed Packaging

Macpac manufactures 100% recyclable thermoformed packaging solutions, supplying customers across a range of markets.

Thermoforming uses plastic sheet that is heated and formed into a specified shape, allowing manufacturers to produce packaging such as trays, containers and other formed packs.

For packaging buyers, certification can provide an independent framework for evaluating whether manufacturing processes meet defined requirements for quality and product safety.

This can be particularly relevant where packaging is used in demanding supply chains requiring consistent specifications and documented manufacturing controls.

Certification Adds Assurance for Customers

Kershaw said the accreditation gives both UK and international customers further confidence in products manufactured at the Stockport facility.

The achievement comes as packaging producers face growing pressure to demonstrate not only the environmental characteristics of their materials but also consistent manufacturing quality, traceability and product integrity.

For Macpac, the AA+ result brings these two areas together: recyclable thermoformed packaging supported by independently assessed manufacturing and quality controls.
