SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick — NBM Railways has completed the largest transportation project in its history, successfully delivering a 70-foot process tank weighing nearly 180,000 pounds to Irving Pulp & Paper as part of the mill’s Project NextGen modernization program.

The oversized shipment required months of planning and close coordination between rail and heavy-lift specialists to ensure the equipment reached the Saint John pulp mill safely.

Heavy-Lift Operation Supports Mill Modernization

According to NBM Railways, the transport formed part of Project NextGen, Irving Pulp & Paper’s ongoing investment to upgrade its manufacturing operations.

The railway company collaborated closely with Irving Equipment Ltd. throughout the project, from route planning and logistics preparation to the final heavy-lift installation.

Handling a 70-foot vessel weighing almost 180,000 pounds required detailed engineering assessments, specialized transportation equipment and carefully coordinated execution to minimize operational risks.

NBM Railways said the successful delivery demonstrates the value of early planning and cooperation between transportation providers, heavy-lift contractors and industrial customers.
