Sealed Air has expanded its fiber-based protective packaging portfolio with the launch of the SEALED AIR ProPad Mini, a compact paper cushioning system designed for fulfillment operations where pack-station space is limited.
Announced on August 24, 2026, the new system brings on-demand paper cushioning into smaller manual packing environments while offering several installation configurations. The company positions the equipment as part of a broader packaging portfolio that extends from individual workstations to higher-volume and automated fulfillment operations.
For e-commerce, third-party logistics and distribution facilities, the launch addresses a practical packaging challenge: adding protective cushioning without occupying excessive workspace or forcing operators to repeatedly move away from their packing stations.
Designed Around Smaller Pack Stations
Space utilization can become an operational constraint as fulfillment volumes increase.
A typical packing station may need to accommodate cartons or mailers, products, labels, tape, cushioning material and other equipment while still leaving sufficient working space for the operator.
The ProPad Mini is designed specifically around this limitation.
According to Sealed Air, the system offers four installation configurations:
- shelf mounting
- tabletop mounting
- swing-arm mounting
- floor-stand mounting
The different configurations allow fulfillment operations to position the paper dispensing equipment according to the layout of an existing packing station rather than redesigning the workstation around the cushioning system.
The swing-arm configuration, for example, can bring the equipment into the operator’s working area when needed while helping preserve usable tabletop space.
Paper Pads Produced on Demand
Rather than requiring operators to handle preformed cushioning materials, ProPad Mini converts fanfold paper into protective pads at the packing station.
The equipment is compatible with one-ply and two-ply fanfold paper, allowing different configurations to be used depending on the required cushioning application.
Sealed Air says the machine can produce custom-length pads starting at six inches and operates at speeds of 120 feet per minute or more.
The resulting paper cushioning can be used for applications ranging from light cushioning and void fill to medium cushioning.
This gives operators the ability to produce cushioning according to the dimensions and protection requirements of the product being packed instead of relying on a single predetermined pad length.
Operator Workflow Is Part of the Design
The equipment also reflects the growing focus on ergonomics and workflow efficiency in fulfillment packaging.
ProPad Mini includes a repositionable touchscreen human-machine interface (HMI) and ergonomic foot-pedal controls.
These features are intended to allow the cushioning process to fit more naturally into the operator’s packing sequence.
For fulfillment operations processing large numbers of orders, small movements can accumulate across a shift. Locating protective packaging equipment close to the point of use can therefore influence more than workstation space — it can also reduce unnecessary operator movement.
“Customers need protective packaging solutions that can scale with their operations – from compact manual pack stations to higher-volume and automated environments,” said Byron Racki, Sealed Air Global Protective president.
According to Racki, ProPad Mini fills the smaller-workspace position within that equipment range while maintaining paper cushioning performance.
Paper Cushioning Expands Across Fulfillment Operations
The new equipment is intended for e-commerce, third-party logistics, shipping and distribution operations.
Its launch also illustrates how fiber-based protective packaging is increasingly being developed as a combination of material and dispensing equipment, rather than simply as a substitute packaging material.
A fulfillment operation adopting paper cushioning must consider not only the paper itself but also how quickly the material can be converted, how much workstation space the equipment occupies and how easily operators can access cushioning during packing.
This becomes particularly important when a company wants to scale from manually operated stations toward greater automation.
Sealed Air says ProPad Mini extends its paper cushioning portfolio across this spectrum, providing an option for smaller manual stations alongside equipment intended for higher-volume environments.
Paper Supply Integrated With Equipment
The ProPad Mini is also supported by Sealed Air’s paper supply network.
According to the company, its paper mills use a closed-loop water system to process recycled fiber feedstock, with the objective of reducing environmental impact while maintaining consistent material quality.
This material-and-equipment approach can be important for on-demand cushioning systems because machine performance depends partly on having paper with characteristics suitable for feeding, forming and converting.
Sealed Air is therefore positioning the system within an integrated paper cushioning supply model rather than treating the equipment as a standalone machine.
Part of a Wider Protective Packaging Strategy
ProPad Mini joins a broader Sealed Air portfolio that includes paper cushioning, protective materials and packaging automation.
The company also supplies AUTOBAG automated packaging systems and BUBBLE WRAP protective materials, allowing different protective packaging formats to be selected according to product requirements and fulfillment conditions.
The significance of the latest launch is consequently less about introducing paper cushioning itself and more about extending that technology into space-constrained packing environments.
For fulfillment centers, the choice of protective packaging increasingly involves several interconnected considerations: product protection, material consumption, packing speed, labor requirements, workstation footprint and compatibility with future automation.
With ProPad Mini, Sealed Air is targeting the smaller end of that operational spectrum — where packing may still be largely manual, but space and labor efficiency already matter.
