BRISBANE, Australia — QLM Group has acquired the assets and customer portfolio of Roastar, strengthening its presence in the flexible packaging market and expanding its capabilities in sustainable coffee packaging solutions.
The acquisition combines Roastar’s expertise in coffee packaging with QLM’s manufacturing, digital printing and supply chain operations, supporting the company’s strategy to grow its value-added flexible packaging business.
Exclusive Coffee Valve Technology Strengthens Portfolio
A key component of the acquisition is QLM’s exclusive distribution agreement for Prime Vent, an advanced coffee degassing valve technology.
According to QLM Label Makers Australia General Manager Andrew Siwicki, the valve extends coffee shelf life while significantly reducing plastic consumption.
The Prime Vent system reportedly uses 95% less plastic than conventional coffee degassing valves, helping coffee roasters improve product freshness while supporting sustainability objectives.
QLM now holds the exclusive distribution rights for Prime Vent across Australia and Southeast Asia, positioning the company to supply environmentally focused packaging solutions to regional coffee brands.
Investment Supports Flexible Packaging Growth
The acquisition follows QLM’s recent A$8 million investment in expanding Australian manufacturing capacity.
As part of the integration, Roastar’s specialised production equipment will be relocated to QLM’s Brisbane manufacturing facility.
The company said the move will create a hybrid production model that combines centralised manufacturing with local finishing capabilities, enabling faster service and greater flexibility for coffee packaging customers.
The expanded operation is expected to strengthen QLM’s ability to provide complete packaging solutions, from flexible packaging production to digital printing and finishing.
Focus on Sustainable Packaging Innovation
QLM Managing Director Simon Pugh said the acquisition strengthens the company’s position in the growing flexible packaging sector.
“We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of Roastar, a move that significantly strengthens our growing position in the flexible packaging market. This acquisition brings a powerful combination of niche coffee expertise and industry-leading technology into the QLM family.”
He added that the additional capabilities will help the company deliver greater value to coffee roasters while supporting the broader transition toward sustainable packaging solutions.
The acquisition reflects growing demand within the coffee industry for packaging that combines product protection, longer shelf life and reduced environmental impact as brands respond to evolving consumer expectations and sustainability targets.
