Sensoplast forewood acquisition

OBERHONNEFELD, Germany — Sensoplast has acquired the assets of sustainable packaging specialist forewood®, expanding its portfolio of bio-based closure solutions for the dietary supplements, food and cosmetics industries.

The acquisition strengthens Sensoplast’s sustainable packaging offering by adding nature-based closure technologies designed to help brand owners meet growing regulatory requirements and consumer demand for environmentally responsible packaging.

Bio-Based Closures Expand Packaging Portfolio

Through the acquisition, Sensoplast gains access to forewood’s proprietary closure technology, which has already been commercialized in several branded consumer products.

The bio-based closures are manufactured using wood and plant fibres rather than conventional fossil-based plastics, providing an alternative material solution for companies seeking to reduce their dependence on traditional polymers.

According to the company, the products have demonstrated commercial viability under real market conditions through existing distribution channels.

Natural Materials Designed for High Performance

One of the key advantages of the forewood technology is its ability to combine sustainability with the technical performance required for primary packaging applications.

The closures are designed to provide:

  • Plastic-free material composition based on wood and plant fibres
  • High mechanical strength and toughness
  • Reliable barrier performance
  • Premium appearance suitable for consumer packaging

Achieving these performance characteristics has traditionally been a challenge for bio-based packaging materials, particularly in applications requiring durability and product protection.

Supports Packaging Sustainability Strategies

Sensoplast said integrating forewood’s technology will enable customers to incorporate renewable packaging components into broader sustainability initiatives.

In addition to standard product offerings, the company plans to provide customized development services to adapt bio-based closure solutions to specific customer requirements.

The expanded portfolio is expected to support manufacturers responding to stricter environmental regulations and corporate sustainability commitments across Europe and international markets.

Growing Demand for Renewable Packaging

The acquisition reflects a broader trend within the packaging industry as manufacturers increasingly invest in renewable materials that can reduce reliance on conventional plastics while maintaining product performance.

Demand for bio-based closures has grown alongside new sustainability regulations, circular economy initiatives and corporate ESG targets, particularly in consumer sectors such as food, cosmetics and nutraceuticals.

As packaging suppliers continue to diversify their material portfolios, natural fibre-based components are becoming an increasingly important option for companies seeking lower-impact primary packaging solutions.

Sensoplast, a family-owned manufacturer, develops and produces closure and dispensing systems made from plastics, elastomers and glass, with a particular focus on high-quality primary packaging for sealing and dosing applications.
