Stora Enso has highlighted how closer collaboration with a global hygiene customer helped simplify logistics for fluff pulp deliveries from its Skutskär mill in Sweden.
The project began with a joint workshop focused on identifying operational improvements. Logistics quickly emerged as the area with the strongest potential for mutual gains.
Simplifying a Complex Supply Chain
Over time, multiple warehouses and transport flows had made the customer’s supply chain more complex and costly.
Instead of improving the existing setup piece by piece, both companies reviewed the full logistics network and agreed to consolidate flows through a single warehouse.
Transparency Created Results
A key factor was the customer’s willingness to share transport cost data. This allowed both teams to identify real savings opportunities and redesign the supply chain more effectively.
The changes were introduced gradually to avoid disruption.
Business Benefits
The project delivered:
- lower logistics costs
- improved working capital efficiency
- maintained service levels
- stronger supplier-customer trust
- better long-term cooperation
Industry Insight
The case shows that pulp supply is no longer only about product quality and price. For hygiene producers using fluff pulp, supply chain design, transparency and logistics efficiency are becoming major sources of value.
Final Thought
Stora Enso’s collaboration demonstrates how open data sharing and joint supply chain redesign can reduce costs while strengthening long-term customer partnerships.
