Sun Paper has selected Kadant Fiberline (China) to supply a new 1,600 bone-dry metric tonnes per day (BDMT/day) OCC stock-preparation system for its PM21 project in Guangxi, China.
The system is scheduled to start up in 2027 and will process old corrugated containers (OCC) as recovered fibre feedstock for paper production.
The order represents another project between Sun Paper and Kadant Fiberline China, extending a relationship the companies say has developed over approximately three decades.
New OCC Line Designed for 1,600 BDMT/Day
The PM21 OCC system will have a design capacity of 1,600 BDMT per day, making recovered-fibre preparation a substantial part of the project’s production infrastructure.
OCC systems prepare recovered corrugated packaging for reuse in papermaking. The process typically involves pulping and the removal of contaminants before usable fibre is delivered to subsequent stock-preparation and papermaking processes.
For high-capacity packaging paper production, the performance of the OCC line can directly influence fibre quality, energy consumption, yield and the stability of the furnish supplied to the paper machine.
Kadant has not disclosed the complete equipment scope or individual process stages included in the Sun Paper order.
Permanent-Magnet Motors Target Energy Efficiency
A notable feature of the new system will be the use of full-line permanent-magnet motor technology.
According to Kadant, the configuration is intended to improve the system’s energy efficiency and operating performance.
At a design throughput of 1,600 BDMT/day, electricity consumption across stock preparation represents an important operating consideration. Improvements in motor and process efficiency can therefore affect the overall production economics of recovered-fibre-based paper manufacturing.
Kadant has not disclosed specific energy-consumption figures or quantified the expected savings compared with a conventional motor configuration.
Kadant and Sun Paper Extend Three-Decade Cooperation
Peter Ma, vice president of sales and marketing at Kadant Fiberline China, said the order builds on approximately 30 years of cooperation between the two companies.
“It is our great pleasure to partner with Sun Paper once again,” Ma said.
He added that the project reflects the companies’ focus on fibre-processing technology as Sun Paper continues developing its manufacturing operations in southern China.
The latest investment also highlights the scale of recovered-fibre processing infrastructure required alongside modern packaging paper capacity.
Once commissioned in 2027, the PM21 OCC system will add another large-scale fibre-processing line to Sun Paper’s Guangxi operations.
Kadant supplies equipment and engineered systems for process industries. Kadant Fiberline China designs and manufactures systems for virgin and recycled fibre stock preparation as well as paper machine approach-flow applications.
