Suzano Cerrado pulp mill

Suzano expects its Cerrado pulp mill in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil, to produce around 2.7 million tonnes of eucalyptus pulp annually from 2027, exceeding its nominal capacity of 2.55 million tonnes.

The site is regarded as the world’s largest single-fibre-line mill for market eucalyptus pulp production.

No Additional Investment Expected

According to EUWID, citing a recent Suzano investor presentation, the higher production level could be achieved without additional investment.

Suzano attributed the increased output potential to:

  • operational efficiency gains
  • high equipment performance
  • strong process stability
  • experienced operating teams
  • successful early commissioning

Fast Ramp-Up After 2024 Start

The Cerrado mill began operations in July 2024 and reached its nominal annual production capacity in early 2025, significantly ahead of schedule.

Suzano said the accelerated ramp-up was supported by extensive operator training before start-up and early testing of individual plant components.

Industry Outlook

The higher output projection reinforces Suzano’s strong position in the global eucalyptus pulp market. If achieved, Cerrado’s production above nominal capacity could further strengthen Brazil’s role as a leading low-cost supplier of market pulp.
