translucent paper security seals

Securikett has expanded its paper-based security label portfolio with new highly translucent tamper-evident seals designed to protect packaged products while allowing underlying graphics, branding and text to remain visible.

The new seals form part of the company’s IT’S PAPER series and are available with either a fibre tear effect or VOID technology.

The development extends the range beyond Securikett’s previous opaque and semi-translucent paper security labels and targets applications where manufacturers want tamper evidence without covering important elements of the package design.

The labels are designed primarily for folding cartons and other paper or cardboard packaging.

Translucent Design Keeps Packaging Graphics Visible

Security labels can create a design problem for brand owners.

When an opaque closure seal is positioned over printed packaging, it can cover graphics, product information or other design elements. Manufacturers may consequently need to modify the artwork or reserve space specifically for the security label.

Securikett’s translucent paper construction is intended to reduce this problem.

According to the company, text and graphics beneath the seal remain clearly visible after application.

This could allow existing folding-carton designs to incorporate a tamper-evident closure without substantial changes to the printed artwork.

For premium consumer products and pharmaceutical packaging, where both presentation and package integrity can be important, the combination of transparency and tamper evidence provides another option for integrating security features into the package itself.

Fibre Tear and VOID Technologies Reveal Tampering

The seals are available with two different tamper-evident mechanisms.

The fibre tear effect uses the interaction between the label and paper-based packaging to provide visible evidence when the seal has been removed.

The alternative VOID version creates an indication when somebody attempts to open or remove the security seal.

Both approaches are intended to make unauthorized package opening easier to identify.

The technology could be particularly relevant to pharmaceutical applications, where manufacturers need packaging systems capable of demonstrating whether a product has previously been opened or interfered with.

Securikett also sees opportunities in other markets requiring product authentication or tamper evidence.

Paper Targets Replacement of Plastic Closure Seals

The material choice is another important part of the development.

Conventional security and closure labels frequently incorporate plastic films. Securikett is positioning its IT’S PAPER range as a paper-based alternative for applications where plastic security seals could potentially be replaced.

The new translucent format expands the situations in which such a transition may be practical because moving from transparent plastic film to opaque paper could otherwise affect package appearance.

Rather than requiring brands to choose between visibility and a paper-based seal, the translucent construction is intended to provide both.

The development reflects a broader packaging trend toward examining relatively small components—including labels, tapes, closures and barrier layers—when redesigning packaging structures.

Even when the primary package is already made from paper or board, these additional components can influence the overall material composition of the finished pack.

Securikett Expands Tamper-Evident Packaging Technologies

The launch follows other developments from Securikett focused on package security.

The company recently introduced a secure labelling technology intended as an alternative to conventional heat sealing for trays.

That system uses a tamper-evident label incorporating a VOID effect that provides an immediate visual indication when a package has been opened or manipulated.

The latest translucent paper labels apply a similar focus on visible tamper evidence to paper and cardboard packaging.

For converters and brand owners, the development demonstrates how security labels are increasingly being designed around several requirements simultaneously: tamper evidence, material choice, packaging aesthetics and compatibility with existing pack designs.

As paper-based packaging expands into more consumer applications, security components may need to evolve alongside the primary packaging material.

Securikett’s latest seals address one part of that transition by bringing higher transparency to paper-based tamper-evident labels without abandoning their security function.
