UPM has introduced three purpose-built adhesive solutions designed to simplify label selection in applications where standard adhesives may not deliver the required performance.
The new offerings—UPM PharmaSure™, UPM Vetro™, and UPM Endurance™—are part of the company’s UPM Raflatac™ label material portfolio and target pharmaceutical, beverage and industrial packaging markets.
Adhesives Tailored to Specific Industries
Label failures can have significant operational and commercial consequences depending on the application.
UPM developed the new solutions to address industry-specific challenges:
- UPM PharmaSure™ supports pharmaceutical labels exposed to sterilization cycles, cold-chain conditions and small-diameter vials.
- UPM Vetro™ is designed for wine and spirits labels that encounter humidity, chilled displays and ice bucket immersion.
- UPM Endurance™ targets oil, chemical and industrial applications requiring resistance to harsh substrates, chemicals, mechanical stress and hot-fill conditions.
Moving Beyond General-Purpose Adhesives
According to UPM, demanding applications require adhesives engineered for specific operating environments rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.
The company said each adhesive is supported by pre-assessed performance data and application documentation, helping converters and brand owners streamline qualification and regulatory processes.
“With demanding label applications, adhesive selection is a critical decision. Our purpose-built adhesive solutions help our customers choose the right performance for their end-use,” said Christian Szameit, Senior Vice President, Global Markets at UPM Adhesive Materials.
Supporting Packaging Reliability
As packaging environments become increasingly complex, adhesive performance is receiving greater attention across the value chain.
Failure can impact:
- Product identification and traceability
- Brand presentation
- Regulatory compliance
- Consumer safety
- Supply chain efficiency
Purpose-built adhesives can help mitigate these risks while improving confidence in label performance.
Industry Outlook
The launch reflects a broader trend toward greater specialization within packaging materials. As pharmaceutical, beverage and industrial applications place more demanding requirements on labels, converters and brand owners are seeking solutions optimized for specific end uses rather than relying solely on general-purpose products.
For the label industry, adhesive selection is evolving from a procurement decision into a critical component of packaging performance strategy.
