Valmet wood handling line

PINE BLUFF, ARKANSAS — Valmet has received an order from The Price Companies to deliver a new wood handling line for its facility in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The investment will increase the company’s chipping capacity and support a reliable supply of high-quality wood chips for pulp and paperboard production.

The Price Companies is the largest wood processor in the United States, serving major paper and packaging producers worldwide. The company operates 43 locations and processes approximately 30 million tons of wood annually.

New Line Designed for Higher Chipping Capacity

Valmet’s delivery will include a complete wood handling solution designed to process both softwood and hardwood tree-length logs, covering the process from log receiving to finished wood chips.

The new debarking and chipping line will have a designed capacity of 475 tonnes of roundwood per hour.

The system will include:

  • Powered infeed conveyor
  • Trunnion-design debarking drum
  • Valmet Disc Chipper Carthage
  • Belt conveyor systems

The equipment is designed to provide stable operation, consistent chip quality and reduced wood losses.

Supporting Reliable Raw Material Supply

For pulp and paperboard producers, consistent wood chip quality is a critical factor affecting mill efficiency, fiber utilization and final product performance.

Dick Carmical, CEO of The Price Companies, said the company’s priority is maintaining a reliable supply of high-quality wood chips for customers.

The company said the partnership with Valmet will help ensure the new facility uses advanced technology to improve chip consistency and minimize raw material losses.

Long-Term Partnership Between Price and Valmet

According to Valmet, the project builds on a long-term relationship between the two companies.

Tiago Silveira, Senior Sales Manager, Service, North America, Pulp, Energy and Circularity at Valmet, said the order reflects continued confidence in Valmet’s wood processing technology following previous successful deliveries.

The new wood handling line is scheduled to start operation in November 2028.
