Find the Right Paper Converting Machine

From slitting and rewinding to printing and automation, we provide paper converting machine solutions for your production needs.

A thermal paper slitter rewinder is a major purchase, but the machine alone does not determine whether a new receipt-roll factory succeeds. The more useful starting point is a clear answer to three questions: What will customers buy, can you make it consistently, and what will each finished roll cost?

From our experience with thermal paper converting equipment, these are three mistakes worth addressing before production begins.

1. Buying a machine before defining the rolls

POS receipt rolls vary by width, outer diameter, core size, paper grade and packaging. A factory that tries to offer every size from day one can end up with too many changeovers and slow-moving stock.

Speak with prospective buyers first. Identify the sizes they order repeatedly, agree on specifications, and build a manageable initial range. Those requirements should guide the choice of slitting, rewinding and packaging equipment.

2. Treating maximum speed as daily output

A quoted machine speed tells you little about how many acceptable rolls you can ship in a shift. Setup time, web breaks, winding consistency and roll-length variation all affect usable output.

Before buying, request a trial with your intended thermal paper and finished-roll specifications. Inspect the rolls: Are the edges clean? Is winding even? Are the diameter and length consistent? Measure output across the full run, including changeovers, rather than relying on the top speed alone.

3. Pricing rolls without knowing the full cost

The jumbo roll is usually the largest material input, but it is not the only cost. Dust, breaks and waste can reduce yield. Cores, wrapping, cartons, maintenance, labour and delivery also belong in the calculation.

Test potential paper suppliers and calculate the cost per saleable finished roll before setting your price. A cheaper jumbo roll may cost more in practice if it produces more waste or inconsistent receipt quality.

A sound way to start

Secure a few dependable buyers, settle the product specifications with them, and prove that you can deliver consistent rolls at a workable margin. Once orders repeat, you will have better evidence for deciding which added capacity or automation is worth the investment.

If you are planning a POS receipt-roll line, share your target roll sizes, expected monthly volume and sales market with JOTA Machinery. We can help you review the converting requirements and discuss a suitable starting setup.
