The initial exposure of this type of KT tape to the general public in our country occurred during the 2008 Beijing Olympics when a close-up shot of American player Kerry Walsh’s shoulder was broadcasted by BOC during the women’s beach volleyball match.

When correctly applied to the skin, kinesio tape adheres in a manner that pulls the skin according to the tape’s shape and tension.

This action increases the gap between the skin and the muscles, leading to the accumulation of muscle tissue, interstitial fluid, and white blood cells.

Additionally, it narrows the gap between the subcutaneous tissue and the injured muscles due to compression.

As a result, muscle pain is relieved, lymph fluid flow is regulated, normal circulation is ensured, and the healing time of the injured area is reduced.

It significantly enhances the body’s proprioception and corrects improper limb posture.

Particularly during running training, it facilitates rapid healing by stretching soft tissues. It serves as a preventive measure against injuries and enhances athletic performance.

Regarding the material properties of the muscle plaster itself, it provides a certain level of stimulation to the skin and has long-lasting effects, thereby reducing swelling, relieving pain, and more.

It also alleviates muscle stiffness, ensures proper body posture, minimizes dysfunction, and addresses sports rehabilitation challenges, thereby enhancing the runner’s capabilities and preventing injuries.

Kinesio tape consists of three layers: the outermost layer is made of breathable and stretchable waterproof cotton, allowing the patch to stretch within limits, up to 130-150%.

The middle layer usually features acrylic hypoallergenic glue (acrylic adhesive), and the inner layer is a release paper.

The rubber surface of the middle layer is designed with specified water ripples, which serve as a key technology claimed by the manufacturer to enhance the patch’s effectiveness.

The adhesive applied to a qualified patch undergoes biocompatibility testing, making it unlikely to cause skin allergies and free from pharmaceutical ingredients.

Elastic therapeutic tape are available in different colors, with four common options being skin color, blue, black, and pink.

It is important to note that the color of the tape does not affect its pulling force.

Red is generally used to promote blood and lymphatic circulation, blue is utilized for its calming and inflammation-reducing properties, skin color is preferred for its inconspicuous appearance, and black is favored for its fashionable appeal.

Kinesiology tape possesses an elasticity of 140-160%, equivalent to the extensibility of muscles.

This elasticity serves as a significant mechanism for its therapeutic effects.

When peeled from the backing paper, the tape retracts by 5-10%.

However, excessive tensile force or thin cutting can lead to a loss of elasticity, rendering the tape similar in performance to a fixed adhesive bandage.
