What are thermal paper rolls ?
Thermal paper rolls are used in receipt printers, POS terminals, kiosks and other devices that print on heat-sensitive paper. Roll width, outer diameter, core size and paper length vary by printer model and application. Common formats include 80 mm rolls for many POS printers and 57 mm rolls for mobile POS and payment terminals. Check your printer specifications before selecting a roll.

Common Thermal Paper Roll Sizes

01
3⅛″(79mm) Width Thermal Paper Rolls
80 mm rolls are commonly used in POS receipt printers. Actual roll width, maximum outer diameter and core size depend on the printer model. Check the device manual before ordering. It offers wide-format printing that accommodates detailed receipts, logos, and barcodes, making it ideal for supermarkets, restaurants, ATMs, kiosks, and transport ticketing systems. Typical roll sizes include 80 × 80 mm, holding 50–90 m of paper depending on thickness. Larger ATM/kiosk rolls can reach 180 mm diameter with 300 m capacity. Compatible with popular printers like Epson TM-T88 series, Star TSP100, Bixolon SRP-350, and Citizen CT-S310, the 79 mm roll remains the most versatile and widely used option across retail, banking, and self-service terminals.
02
2¼″(56mm) Width Thermal Paper Rolls
The 56 mm (commonly 57 mm) roll is the compact choice for credit card terminals, mobile printers, and handheld POS devices. Designed for portability and space-limited machines, these rolls typically measure 57 × 40 mm or 57 × 50 mm, with lengths from 12 m to 50 m. Widely used in Verifone VX, Ingenico iCT/iWL/Move terminals, Bixolon SPP-R200, Zebra 2″ mobile printers, and Sharp/Casio cash registers, the 56 mm roll is essential for payment receipts, taxi/bus tickets, parking meters, and portable field service printing. Its smaller width makes it practical, efficient, and perfectly suited for industries where mobility and quick on-demand printing matter most.

Approximate roll lengths are estimates and may vary with paper thickness, winding tension and core dimensions. Confirm the finished roll specifications against your printer and production requirements.

For standard POS and receipt-roll production, thermal paper jumbo rolls are slit and rewound into the required finished widths, diameters and core specifications.

For higher production output, a fully automatic configuration can reduce manual handling and integrate additional roll finishing, packaging or palletizing processes.

If your rolls require logos or promotional information, inline flexographic printing can be combined with slitting and rewinding in one production process.
